• In apocalyptic survival situations, hunting small game may be your only option for meat.

Not only is small game generally plentiful in most areas, but it is also easy to store and handle… IF you know what you are doing.  This is one of those skills you don’t want to wait until the last minute to learn because you could find yourself either hungry or suffering from toxins.

One last thing before we begin.  A lot of “hunters” can be pretty cold blooded about hunting.  If your not going to eat it, don’t shoot it.

    Getting Started

The following video is a great starting point for learning how to hunt and prepare small game from Wingman115.

Here’s a look at what I carry when I’m out small game hunting. Not all of the items in this video will work for everyone but the intent is to see what other folks carry when their out in the woods. –Wingman115

I would also like to refer you to our tutorial on Air-rifles, which is a great starting point for those of you new to firearms.

You should also learn how to trap animals as that can come in handy if something has happened to your weapon or you are low on ammo.

    The Game

If your opposed to killing Thumper, this section isn’t for you.   The fact remains that squirrels and rabbits are probably one of the most agreeable  small game food sources.   Yes, other rodents such as rats and mice are available, but it is a psychological barrier with some people.

That being said, almost all of these techniques apply to all small game including the ones we don’t relish eating.

IMPORTANT:  Please read up on your local small game before hunting and eating them.  Various areas are home to diseases & parasites that could make you ill or cause death.  You must know the exact details of how to prepare your game before consuming them.

Below, I have included a playlist of some of the best videos on small game hunting (and trapping) and preparation.
