In my studies I have been looking at ways to survive an apocalyptic event with minimal supplies and relying on gathering from my environment and building useful tools & weapons.

The Air Rifle of the Apocalypse
Should shit go sideways, and since you are here you probably think it will, air rifles can be one of the most important upgrades to your hunting collection.
A few simple reasons for this are:
- Most do not require cartridges or gun powder
- You can carry a few thousands of rounds in your bug-out bag with little weight gain
- They are perfect for killing small game (rabbits, squirrels, etc)
To get started, I would recommend purchasing a rifle after doing some research. Once you have one that meets your requirements, check to also see if “upgrade” tutorials are available for the air rifle you choose. This can add an extra bit of punch to the shot, or help the gun fire faster. A really great beginner gun at a super low price is the Beeman Kodiak X2 Dual Caliber .177 / .22 Cal. Here is one where the creator takes a Beeman 1049f (more Beeman Models Here) and “upgrades” the rifle to shoot at 800 feet-per-second (in Canada it is considered a rifle after 500 feet-per-second) which is plenty enough to kill most small game at 20 – 40 yards.
That’s all great and dandy, but what about if your air rifle gets lost/broken in the middle of the apocalypse. Well in that case how about you build your own air rifle!
As well, why not spruce up your ammo with exploding rounds! Sure to take out those pesky zombies or forces of the anti-christ!
